Reading & Language Arts
Throughout the school, a rich vocabulary is encouraged. In the primary grades, students are introduced to sight words and taught how to use a sound wall.
St. Paul Catholic School has invested a great deal of time and resources into launching the University of Florida Literacy Institute’s “UFLI” curriculum full time for grades K-2 and on a differntiated basis for Grades EC4 & 3. These teaching strategies return to the root importance of a phonics-based reading instruction. Students receive specific time each day for explicit instruction in phonics skills and reading strategies.
In grades six through eight, we believe in the importance of using a comprehensive and balanced writing and grammar program to build skills in our students beyond the classroom.
