St. Paul Catholic School considers foreign language an essential part of the intellectual formation of our students. Our middle school students attend Spanish class four times a week. Using the latest foreign language acquisition methodologies, our classes go beyond the traditional pen and paper routine and incorporate listening, speaking and reading comprehension tasks in our day-to-day activities. With the ability to communicate in Spanish as the ultimate goal, students are given a variety of opportunities to practice speaking and listening through weekly skits, interviews, audio activities and voice recordings. Instruction and vocabulary introduction is all accomplished in Spanish using images as cues and reinforcement. What’s more, through the use of technology, international views are fostered with structured activities based off authentic Spanish websites requiring students to read and interpret real- world Spanish, work in a foreign currency and often times, the metric system.
