St. Paul’s Library
The mission of the St. Paul Catholic School Library is to provide a place where all who use it may find materials for enjoyment and/or study within a climate of respect for persons and materials so that individuals and groups may benefit from the library’s resources. The library’s collection of nearly 9,000 books exceeds the number of books per student recommended by the Florida Catholic Conference. The library is automated and uses the Dewey Decimal System of classification. The library has a bank of eight computers for research, class assignments, and testing.
Student use of the Library:
- 30 minutes weekly (grades k-5)
- 50 minutes weekly (grades 6-8)
- 30 minutes read-aloud (grade k-1)
- Before and/or after school with a note from the parent at least one day before requested time
- During the school day with teacher’s permission
EC3 and EC4 visit the library for a twenty minute period each week.
Parent use of the Library:
Parents are welcome to check out books from the library to share with their children. They are asked to contact the librarian before coming to assure that she is able to meet with them when they come.
Statewide Reading Programs:
- Grades EC4-2: Florida Reading Association Book Award Program
- Grades 3-5: Sunshine State Reader Award Program for elementary students
- Grades 6-8: Sunshine State Reader Award Program for middle school students
St. Paul Catholic School Library promotes the use of the St. Petersburg Public Library System when this would be beneficial to students. Some ways the website may be used:
- Using the library catalog
- Determine what books the library has on a given subject
- Determine what books the library has by a particular author
- Determine if the library has a particular book
- Reserving a book
- Checking on the due date of a book
- Renewing books
